OMA: David Gianotten
28.03.2024
The Hellenic Institute of Architecture organized an event for the architect David Gianotten, Managing Partner of OMA/AMO, on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at 7:00 p.m., at “The HUB Events.”
As Managing Partner and Architect at OMA/AMO, David Gianotten oversees the overall organizational and financial management, business strategy, and international development of the firm, alongside managing his own architectural portfolio. Currently, David leads the design and construction of projects such as the Museo Egizio in Turin; the Bajes Kwartier in Amsterdam — the transformation of a former prison complex into a new neighborhood; the VDMA — the conversion of an industrial area in Eindhoven into a mixed-use urban center; and the new Koepel district — the renovation of the Panopticon and courthouse complex in the city of Breda into a mixed-use area.
David has led the design and realization of Apollolaan 171 — a high-spec office building in Amsterdam; the Taipei Performing Arts Center (2022); Potato Head Studios — a hotel complex in Bali (2020); the WA Museum Boola Bardip in Perth (2020); and the White Cube LIRCAEI in Lusanga (2018). He also co-curated the exhibition N*thing is Possible at the Singapore Design Centre in 2022.
David joined OMA in 2008, launched the OMA office in Hong Kong in 2009, and became a partner at OMA in 2010. He was head of OMA’s Asia-Pacific portfolio for seven years.
More specifically, in his lecture titled “Urban Charge,” David Gianotten discussed OMA’s projects worldwide, focusing on the urban transformations driven by these works. How do we perceive the energy and vitality of a place, and how do we channel them to create a positive impact through architecture? David explored these questions in his lecture through projects of varying scales and typologies.
