The exhibition and the inauguration symposium complemented the activities of a teaching group from the Department of Architecture at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH). The group consisted of: Nikos Kalogirou, Maria Dousi, Dimitris Thomopoulos, Dimitris Kontaxakis, Sofoklis Kotsiopoulos, and Themistoklis Chatzigiannopoulos, who were selected by the Ministry of Environment and Energy to represent Greece at the Venice Biennale Architettura 2021, with the national commissioner being the Secretary General of Spatial Planning and Urban Environment, Efthymios Bakogiannis.
Seeking an alternative response to the Biennale question “How will we live together?”, within the framework of a new spatial social contract, was presented the Grand Gesture of the Aristotelous Axis in Thessaloniki, designed by the architect and urban planner Ernest Hébrard. This axis evolved over the course of a century as a multicultural crossroads within the context of a radical urban modernization.
