Greekness and Modernity in Contemporary Architecture. The work of A31 2010-2019
Praxitelis Kondylis was born in Athens. He graduated from the Department of Architecture at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, earning a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree as an Architect Engineer. He continued his studies at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) in Barcelona, obtaining a second master’s degree (M.Arch.) in Interior Architecture. He completed his academic training by pursuing doctoral studies in architectural design at the School of Architecture of Barcelona (ETSAB) under the supervision of Helio Piñón, professor and collaborator of Enric Miralles. Simultaneously, he collaborated with architectural firms in Barcelona, and in 2003 he founded his own architectural office, A31 architecture, in Athens. In 2007, civil engineer Panagiotis Karras joined the firm, leading to the establishment of A31 ARCHITECTURE CONSTRUCTION. His architectural work has received numerous national and international awards and distinctions, including the “Public and Commercial Architecture” Award at the BIG SEE ARCHITECTURE AWARDS in Ljubljana, the “Best Hotel Interior Greece” Award at the EUROPE PROPERTY AWARDS 2018 in London, an award at the DOMES Awards 2018, a commendation at the Architizer A+ Awards 2016 in New York, “Best Project of the Year 2015” by Archilovers, a commendation at the DOMES Awards 2014, a distinction at the Architecture Awards 2013 by the Hellenic Institute of Architecture (HIA), finalist at the Architizer A+ Awards 2013 in New York, and honors at the 6th, 7th, and 9th Biennale of Young Greek Architects by the EIA, among others. His work has been published and exhibited repeatedly both in Greece and abroad.
