8th Biennale of Young Greek Architects
18.09 – 8.11.2015
The Hellenic Institute of Architecture, as part of its activities for the promotion of contemporary Greek architecture, announced competition to select projects for the 8th Biennale of Young Greek Architects. The aim of the Biennale of Young Greek Architects, is to gather a representative sample of the work of young architects, to prominence new creators and to exchange ideas regarding the development of architectural thought and the production of architectural work in Greece today.
The Biennale accepts entries from architects up to 45 years of age, regarding implemented projects and non-implemented proposals, provided that they correspond to actual design assignments (including projects that have been awarded to competitions). The submission of student work was not allowed. The projects that were selected by the competent committee appointed by the HIA, were exhibited and published in detail in a relevant catalog that was released by the HIA. The list contains the selection committee’s reasoning as well as – more concisely – all of the submitted works. At the same time, a conference was organized at the exhibition site, with invited speakers, aiming at a critical evaluation of all the works.
The selection of the proposals to be exhibited were made by the architects: Andrea Giakoumakato, Dimitri Issaia, Michali Manidaki, Kosta Moraiti and Dionisi Sotoviki. The exhibition of the works took place at the Benaki Museum on Pireos Street from September to November 2015, in parallel with the publication of the catalogue. The 8th Biennale was curated and designed by the architect Nadia Koula.
