Buone Nuove: Women Changing Architecture
15.03-20.04.2024
The Italian Embassy in Greece celebrated the 8th edition of Italian Design Day (an initiative that promotes Italian creativity and Made in Italy worldwide, this year focusing on the theme “Building Values: Inclusivity, Innovation, and Sustainability”) with the opening of the exhibition “Buone Nuove / Good News. Women Changing Architecture,” a production by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with Rome’s MAXXI (National Museum of 21st Century Arts). The exhibition offers an exciting journey through the evolution of architecture as a female profession, curated by Pippo Ciorra, Elena Motisi, and Elena Tinacci.
Introducing the exhibition, the Italian Ambassador, Mr.Paolo Cuculi, emphasized the value and honoured the fundamental contribution of women – starting from the pioneering figures established after World War II to the most prominent personalities of our time – in the development of modern and contemporary architecture and the prestige of Italian Design. He also highlighted their outstanding role in combating stereotypes and discrimination.
Speeches were also delivered by the Deputy Director of the Byzantine and Christian Museum, Aikaterini Dellaporta, the curator Elena Motisi, and the President of the Hellenic Institute of Architecture, Emeritus Professor Elias Constantopoulos, in the presence of Greek authorities as well as representatives from the cultural and architectural sectors of both Italy and Greece.
Thanks to the collaboration with the Hellenic Institute of Architecture, the exhibition was enriched with installations dedicated to Greek female architects Marika Zagorisiou, Elli Nikolaidou Vasilikioti, Anastasia Tzakou, and Alexandra Paschalidou Moreti. These installations were curated by architect Christina Papadimitriou and remained open to the public at the Byzantine and Christian Museum until April 20th.
