Architectural Award HIA 2022: Announcement of the Award Results
03.10.2022
The Award signifies and evaluates the overall architectural work produced in Greece. It functions as a model, a new example that becomes a subject of reflection, critique, and comparison. The choice of the model is shaped through a series of intellectual processes that lead to a system of evaluative opinions.
In an era dominated by image and the aesthetics it projects—whereby the essential spatial experience of the building is often marginalized—the result of a competition and the contemplation around it must contribute to promoting Architecture as a spiritual and social creation, and not merely as a process of producing aesthetic objects.
Therefore, we consider the establishment of visits to the shortlisted projects particularly important. The on-site experiential encounter offered us surprises, sometimes pleasant and sometimes unpleasant, as the drawings but especially the photographs of the projects did not always convey their spatial qualities or shortcomings.

In any case, the judgment and evaluation of architectural works is naturally a sensitive and difficult process that must be well-founded and not arbitrary or vague. For the first time, the requirement set forth in the award announcement led to the need to formulate a framework that involved a series of reflections and criteria, as developed in the attached minutes of the jury.
